Green Lantern Casts a Green Light on NSW

Wonderful news for all you film people watching the days creep towards the mid year mark. The Green Lantern is going to be shot in Sydney. NSW and Victoria were competing for this Hollywood runaway production and it was announced this morning by NSW Premiere Nathan Rees that NSW won the project.

This is great news for Sydney film freelancers because it's been very quiet of late. (did someone mention downturn?) Preproduction is set to start in July and production in November, with production expected to run for about nine months. Rees announced today the Green Lantern will provide around 500 jobs during its course.

The Green Lantern is based on the superhero comic of the same name. Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) has been slated to direct, and the rumour is Chris Pine from the new Star Trek film will play the lead.
